Bucks Success Story - Anton Alfy

Anton Alfimenko is a recent Bucks graduate who has now landed a full time job with the Bleacher report, the US Sports News company.

We asked him to talk a little about his new job, and what it takes to break into the industry.

Bucks: What are you working on?
Anton: I work at the UK office of Bleacher Report, american sports news company, as a motion designer, mostly concentrated on creating visual art for their social media channels. But it's in the nature of the job that I hardly ever spend more than two days on any individual project.

Bucks: What skills does it involve?
Anton: As the job involves mostly social media, you always have to stay on top of what's going on in pop culture, and get new references that will help you react in an interesting way to what is happening in the world of sport.

In terms of software skills, everything is done inside Adobe's Creative Cloud, and mostly involves After Effects work, with Photoshop and Illustrator to create assets for a future animation in AE.

Bucks: How did you get the job?
Anton: I did a number of freelance projects for Bleacher Report over the last year - so a full time position felt like a natural progression on both sides, once I had graduated from university. The job is challenging but at the same time offers considerable creative freedom to realise potential ideas.

Bucks:  What advice would you give to a student who wants to break into the industry?
Anton: Work. Work. Work. Sacrifice your social life in your last year of university if you need to, and go to as many events connected to the industry as possible. Industry events are happening all the time, and you never know who you could meet. You can't imagine how small the industry is, so networking is important. That, and putting in the hours and hours of work to create the ideas you believe in.
